Hi, I’m Marjorie.
Hi and welcome! I’m Marjorie and I am a Certified Integrative Nutritionist and a Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach. I am passionate about helping people feel good in their bodies, whatever that means to them. When I work with clients, we take a whole person approach to make healthy eating simple and wellness a seamless part of life. While nutrition takes center stage in my practice, I believe it is just as important (okay fine, more important) to nurture your mental and emotional well-being. We work on all of these aspects of YOU so that you can live the life you really want. We don’t want to overwhelm you - we do it in an approachable, practical way. After all, feeling good should feel good!
And I want you to feel good not just today, but for the rest of your life. I want you to reach your body composition goals, find more energy and focus, and help you change your habits to set you up for success - not only for today but for the long term. The goal shouldn’t be to be the world’s healthiest person (that isn’t sustainable or realistic!) but to be as healthy as you need to be to live the life that you want for years to come.
How did I get here?
I’m human.
For most of us, that means we have dealt with body image issues at some point in our lives and I am certainly no different. My weight has fluctuated greatly over the years, but I grew up in the heyday of fad dieting: South Beach, Jenny Craig, Atkins, Fast Metabolism, the list goes on. I used all of these as tools to help me lose weight because they work – you do lose weight! You just don’t keep it off and the cycle continues. In my 20s I had found balance from the yo-yo cycle and then I got engaged – and I (gasp for all of you ladies, especially those from the South) GAINED weight. I still looked pretty good, if I do say so myself, and we were so happy that it didn’t bother me. But then I kept gaining it after we got married – like 30 pounds of it. After we had our first child I had had enough. I only had one life and I didn’t want to live it in that body.
But that’s just it – your body is YOUR body no matter the weight.
This time, I wanted to honor my body and make sustainable, lasting change. I wanted to focus on nurturing and nourishing my body instead of overworking and starving it and hoping it would change for the better.
That is where my health transformation really began.
Unfortunately, in addition to the weight, I also struggled with chronic insomnia, hormone imbalances and cystic acne. I had kidney infections and even an appendectomy. And yet all of my doctors told me I was normal and healthy. The final straw was when I was forced to have an emergency C-Section with my second child. Looking back, I know that was completely avoidable. This was so eye opening to me that while doctors do their best, they simply cannot know what is really best for you – you know you better than anyone else and you have to trust your intuition and advocate for yourself. This led me to really start digging into the science and research (side note, I’m a huge nerd – organic chemistry was my favorite class in college) and start taking classes on nutrition and health. I believe there is a better way of living and that is with a focus on prevention and longevity.
Since my journey began, I have dropped all of that added weight and more. I don’t diet at all (I don’t even believe they work), I don’t count calories, I don’t obsess about food. I focus on putting the good stuff in and making sure I get proper nutrients, not restricting the bad things. I am almost 10 years into this journey and have had 3 children and still weigh less than I did in high school. And while that feels good (and trust me, it does) what feels even better is the feeling of empowerment I now have. I know exactly how to take care of myself from nutrition, sleep, exercise, self-care, stress management, supplementation, etc and I’m not stuck with a million questions about what to do.
I genuinely believe my road here has been life-changing and I’m excited for every new day to be in this body. It is not about perfection, if that is your goal – good luck! It’s about progress and learning and doing what feels best for you every day.
If you are struggling with weight issues, chronic health challenges or just don’t feel your best, I understand. I get you, I see you, I am you. And I would be honored to help you on your own health journey.
